I speak "Wedding"...do you?

bride-with_calculator.s600x600Recall back to before you were married. Before you were engaged. Before you were beginning to plan your wedding. How much did you know about professional photography, peak seasons of flowers, flavors of buttercream icing, or satin rouching on a Maggie Sottero dress? I have to admit that 6 months ago I wouldn't have known the difference between a chiavari chair and a lazy-boy.

In speaking with a fellow bride-to-be, I recently discovered that there is a certain language to being a bride. My un-engaged friends sat there dumbfounded and confused while my fellow bride-to-be and I spout off local photographers, costs per head for dinner, ceremony etiquette, and more. Who knew there was this subcultre of weddings out there?

I've also learned that married women who have "been there" are tickled pink to talk to you about their experiences with wedding planning. It is almost like a right of passage in American culture. I know that Marriage in general is considered a right of passage, but I think planning a wedding is its own, distinct entity. It is something brides talk about for the rest of their lives. Women are all a flutter with wedding talk when a bride-to-be is around. The advice flows like from a fountain!

Taking on wedding planning is a huge undertaking. There is so much to learn, there are so many decisions to make, and there are so many contracts, payments, logistics, and small details to take into account. It is like a second full-time job Without the help of other brides-to-be and all the married ladies out there, I would be lost in sea of information. There is just so much to take in, and having friends to provide advice and guidance is priceless.

Hello Blog-o-sphere!

I have been an avid blog reader for many years now, but I never thought my life was interesting enough to warrant its own blog. Lately, though, my life has changed in a lot of ways, and I feel like I have things to say! I know a lot of this may be better suited for a therapy session at the local psych ward, but I figured why not just dump my thoughts on other people over the internet instead. Horray!

So why is my life so suddenly interesting? Well, I am a grown up. At the ripe age of 23, I find myself waking up before 10am, putting on my big girl pants, shining up my new engagement ring, and walking out into the big world where people don't realize I am still a child. Between wedding planning, my job, my family, my loving fiance and the few friends I still manage to fit in, I am in a constant crunch for time. I feel like the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland.

"I'm late! I'm late! For a very important date! No time to say hello! goodbye! I'm late! I'm late! I'm late!"

Thus the title of my blog, "The Timeless Bride." My world spins and reels (in an exciting, yet terrifying kind of way) when I think about my upcoming nuptials. September 4th, 2011. 297 days.  And you can't ignore the irony of the title.  Who doesn't want to be the timeless bride, inducing images of classic beauty, endless love, and tradition all wrapped into a puffy silk gown.  Now if only I had time to make my wedding vision come alive!
